Nice progress but your right, you have a long way to go. Make sure everything has normal maps on it. Use the SSS skin shader for the skin. Fix the hair and add detail to the armor. Play around with Maya's hair system or follow the low poly hair modeling tut here: http://www.3dtotal.com/team/Tutorials_3/lowpoly_hair/lowpoly_hair_01.php
Oh . . . and make sure you separate the head for more texture space. Present her using the technique I showed in class (subdivided cylinder + 3pt lighting) or lit against a background photo etc. Make sure she is posed and with her weapon!
